Expanded Availability of Polysaccharide Storage Myopathy (PSSM1) Test

The Veterinary Genetics Laboratory is pleased to announce that it is now licensed to offer the Polysaccharide Storage Myopathy (PSSM1) test to the general public as both a standalone test (for all breeds) and part of a genetic disease panel for Quarter Horses and related breeds. The VGL has a long history of testing for PSSM1 in the AQHA disease panel, but this is the first time we have been able to make the test available to all clients. PSSM1 is found in many horse breeds and genetic testing can inform clinical management and breeding decisions. Pricing, a list of breeds appropriate for testing, and other details can be found on the main test page.

Please note: If you are testing a horse registered or eligible for registration with the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA), then it is recommended that you order the AQHA's Five-Panel Genetic Disease Test directly through the registry (Order Form). Not doing so may result in a recording fee assessed by AQHA.
